Their base, La Maria Club, is the first club in the city where you can legally kick back with your friends and smoke some weed. Once you are a card-carrying member, you can head to the club to obtain marijuana from the non-profit association (making an appropriate member contribution) helping to promote the responsible use of non-black market cannabis.
Getting into the club is relatively simple, if you’ve got the right contacts. You’ll need to be over 21, bring your passport and pay the twenty euro annual membership fee. You will also need to be a partner or come with somebody who is already a partner. A partner is a member who has brought proof from their doctor that they have an ailment that can be soothed through the use of marijuana.
At La Maria Club you won’t just find a smoky den full of red-eyed mumbling teenagers. It is a vibrant space with an imaginative program of events. Past shindigs have included film screenings, DJ showcases and graffiti competitions. There’s even La Cena Cannábica (“The Cannabis Dinner”), a night where your high and your munchies satiation come all rolled into one.
The team behind AIRAM are serious about the defense of the use of cannabis. Their aim is to campaign for the legalization of the drug and prove that it can be used responsibly and for good. They actively work to make themselves part of the local community, even entering a team in the local Futbol 7 soccer tournament. Sounds like there’s very few people left in this city who won’t be welcoming the AIRAM crew with open arms.
