Growing up in 2010 is hard, the days of climbing trees and scraping knees aren’t quite as straightforward as they once were. A deteriorating environmental situation means kids have to be as aware of their actions as adults. Doesn’t sound like much fun, but there are ways for tots to happily go green.
Mons Lavabo, an eco-friendly sink made out of the biodegradable and recyclable material Duralmond, gives little ones the opportunity to start doing their part. Invented by TengChuan Tey and Romualdo Faura Bernabé from Spain as an entry for Designboom’s Green Life contest, the irresistible character-shaped sink is child size and safe. Motion detectors prevent excessive water use, while the soft, curved shape prevents floor spills. The character’s face even serves a helpful purpose, with a soap dispenser hidden in the tooth, a button to turn water on and off in the left nostril and a warm air hand dryer in the right nostril. When the designs eventually come on the market, they’ll be available in an array of bright colors, including one with space to grow a plant on the top—too bad they don’t make them for grown-ups.
