We all have body hang-ups, even those of us who are a svelte size 2, like Spanx creator Sara Blakely. No matter how fit or thin, there’s always a spot we’d like to firm up or flatten. In 1998, Blakely recognized this dilemma and created a solution that doesn’t require long hours at the gym or months of difficult dieting. Spanx, a shapewear brand that uses cotton compression technology, allows wearers of different shapes and sizes to conceal their problem areas.

While Spanx products have been popular with women for years – including slim celebrity Gwyneth Paltrow – men haven’t reaped their rewards, until now. A few months ago, the company created a line giving men an added boost to their upper body. The men’s collection includes cotton compression crew necks, V-necks and tanks with 36-gauge stitching, which the brand claims, “firms [the] chest, flattens [the] stomach, improves posture [and] supports [the] lower back.” Two years and hundreds of prototypes later, the breathable, high-stretch shirts are flying off the shelves and are even more popular online, where buyers can order their Spanx discreetly.
