Launched in 2003, this short film festival in Terrassa is one of the few film events occurring during the sleepy summer months of August and September. Incorporating both music and film with live performances sprinkled between screenings, Baumann is sure to be worth a trip this year – especially if you’re one of the film festivalstarved in September. Last year’s edition saw more than 200 mini films compete for the top cash and trophy prize. One of this edition’s lucky winners has already been announced; storyboard contest champion Jesús Álvarez, with his winning ‘Shorts’ entry. Álvarez has not only taken the hefty euro prize but will also play an integral role in the festival’s marketing campaign. The festival organizers created the storyboard competition, open to young artists, as a way of offering the winning creator a hand in developing the look and feel of the event. A way to promote young Catalan talent and also educate youth through a partnership with experienced creative and marketing pros, this side of the festival contest is proving to be a fantastic deal on both ends. The films, no more than 30 minutes apiece, are spread across the categories of fiction, animation, documentary, experimental and video clip – small cine bites for all types.
