Just like a trusty friend – a BFF – the Bicycle Film Festival supports the music, art and film of its two-wheelin’ pals. After being proposed in 2007 and 2008, the festival featuring tall bike jousting, BMXs, alleycats, bike polo and more, will finally make a stop in Barcelona in the fall of 2010.
Brendt Barbur, BFF’s founder and director, was pushed down by the man – in this case a bus – while riding his bike in New York City. However, that experience served as the catalyst for Barbur to create a festival celebrating bikes and bikers. About the delay in coming to Barcelona, “It took us a while to get there because we wanted to be positive that everything was in line before we came along. We really need local participation to create a more unique event in Barcelona.” He adds, “I personally love Barcelona…it is definitely a city that I recognize as relevant to worldwide contemporary culture.” His festival has been fortunate enough to include the work of well known international artists like Mike Mills, Blonde Redhead and Michel Gondry, as well as showcase creations from bike-loving newcomers—if you’ve got a bike vid, the submission deadline is February 17th.
