Eager to learn more about Iberian Peninsula wines? Look no further than Catavino.net, a wine blog started in 2005 by two American expats who traded Minnesota winters for the less-punishing climate of Catalonia. Husband and wife team Ryan and Gabriella Opaz delight English-speaking readers by recounting their adventures in wine online. They also use their site to showcase the breadth of wine that Portugal and Spain have to offer.

With roughly 20,000 visitors a month, Catavino.net –combining the Spanish words catar (to sample) and vino (wine) – has become an important resource for wine drinkers and retailers alike. While hard to choose favorites, Ryan and Gabriella rave about Portugal’s wine prospects. Within Spain, whites from Rioja make the list of “most exciting” wines. In spite of the fact that “drinking wine every day kind of takes the magic out of drinking wine,” as Ryan laments, Catavino.net hopes to continue to be a portal for those looking to learn from these two’s true passion for Iberian wines.
