The digital world is taking over, from the runway to the wardrobe.

With runway shows featured on YouTube, blogs and Twitter, the fashion word has turned to virtual reality. It only makes sense then that the clothing itself take a digital turn, allowing designers to create and produce garments with added ease and expressiveness. Although interactive clothing may not be on the radar just yet, attention grabbing, technology-inspired prints took over the spring and summer 2010 runways.

The recent show by the late, great Alexander McQueen saw models clad in digitally printed mini-dresses, inspired by 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Each beauty took to the runway in bold patterns and colors inspired by moths, jellyfish, snakes, and fish. Up-and-comer Mary Katrantzou is a devout follower of computer-generated print. Katrantzou’s silk dresses with decorative designs are perfect for warm weather cocktail parties. And as we add the designers’ pieces to our wish lists and tally up the numbers, thankfully Polyvore offers Christopher Kane’s more affordable digital dresses to keep our cyber minds at ease.
