The allure of burlesque shows no signs of losing pace. In our fair city, events such as Taboo at the Apolo continue to draw crowds and the streets throng with sirens in blood red lipstick and seamed tights. Is there an international queen of burlesque? Hell yes. Dita Von Teese of course. This November she will be doing something that she should have done a long time ago. She is launching her first ever perfume. It will be called “Dita Von Teese.” Bien sûr.

Ms. Von Teese describes the hands-on approach she took to design her perfume: “I wanted it to be a perfume that smelled exactly how I imagined it. I doubt the perfumers in Paris imagined that I would be in their shop almost every day for an entire year.” She would not rest or settle until she had found the exact scent she was hoping for: “This process continued until I found the exact composition that was perfect both for me and for others.”

The perfume has been crafted using some sensual and original ingredients: Bourbon pepper, fresh peonies, fizzy bergamot, Bulgarian rose, Tahitian Tiaré petals, fresh jasmine, patchouli, musk and smoky Gaiac wood. The seductress feels she has been embodied in the perfume, saying, “A scent needs to reflect all the different facets of my personality. It had to be elegant, glamorous, sophisticated, sexy, dark, and mysterious.”

The perfume bottle has been designed in homage to the 1930s, the time where perhaps Dita Von Teese truly belongs. The vintage feel bottle is crafted from ornate cut, black glass and has a red silk cord and black tassle around the neck. We all need a little touch of pin-up glamour in our lives; maybe Dita’s perfume is where we begin.
