Toting a book around can be dangerous business, especially when reaching down into a bag’s deep abyss to pull it out: they often emerge crumpled, marked by the pen whose cap is eternally getting lost, or dampened thanks to a leaky bottled beverage. What’s even more embarrassing is the impossibility of explaining all this to fellow train passengers who simply think it is a case of sloppiness. No more head hanging in shame, however, thanks to Melcher Media’s DuraBooks, a set of suped-up synthetic paper books prepared to stand firm against the tough stuff. Impermeable and virtually indestructible, these books can safely move between bags, bathtubs and rainstorms. DuraBooks not only endure where traditional books unbind, but their genres and book material also push boundaries. Take the Aqua Erotica series for steamy bubble bath-soaking entertainment, or the clever cult-classic The Pop-Up Book of Phobias. And to boot, the books are ‘upcyclable’. This means that well before being put together, clever scientists thought up a way for the pages to be reincarnated using a special synthetic paper that can be melted down and repeatedly reused.
