Introducing a new way to combine being fashion conscious with a social conscience. These days we are all aware of the need to reduce plastic bag consumption at the supermarket. To that end, many designers have come up with reusable and trendy shopping bags as an alternative. Now, Lauren Bush, model, designer and niece of exiting US president George W. has taken it one step further. Lauren’s Feed Bag is the latest weapon in the fight against child poverty. Made of 100% organic cotton this environmentally friendly shopping bag with its “Feed the children of the world” slogan goes well beyond simply raising awareness. Most importantly, the purchase of the bag actually contributes enough money to provide one child with a year’s worth of meals at school. This is all part of the UN World Food Program (WFP) that aims to give a daily nutritious meal to children at school in 74 of the poorest countries world-wide. The idea doesn’t just work to combat child hunger, but also encourages kids to attend school that may not go otherwise.
