Have you ever seen ice cream being made? If so, there’s a chance you considered never eating it again! The sheer quantity of eggs alone is enough to strike fear into the waistline of even the most avid bon viveur. Frozen yogurt, on the other hand, is actually pretty good for you. Never would or should it replace ice cream, but it’s a viable alternative for those of us with a daily frozen goods habit. And the distinct lack of calories in the actual yogurt leaves you free to pile it high with tasty toppings. Until recently, Barcelona seemed slightly lacking on the frozen yogurt front. But this summer things have most definitely changed; throughout the city shiny new parlors have cropped up.

Cup&Cake

True to form, the Cup&Cake team were one of the first to notice a gaping hole in the Barcelona frozen yogurt market. The owner, Manex, explains that he scoured Barcelona in search of the healthy treat; finding the city wanting, he decided to take matters into his own hands. The pastel colored shops specializes in cupcakes but now also does a fine line in organic frozen yogurts.

Kimök

Kimök has a slightly Scandinavian vibe, with paneled wooden walls in the shop and that conspicuous umlaut. The shop sits in the heart of the old town and gets creative with the toppings. Favorites include dulce de leche, kit kat and lemon crunchy.

Mimos

A pint-sized frozen yogurt shop in edgy Raval offering four different flavors: natural tart, chocolate, vanilla and a flavor of the month. The colorful murals that sprawl across the walls match the fruity toppings.

Dulce Pecado

If you're in Poble Sec, take a stroll by the simple Dulce Pecado, opened a few months ago, for a simple but affordable treat. Two euros will get you a small frozen yogurt with three toppings.
