Don’t be fooled by corpse-like appearances; the Goth revival is alive and kicking and if the fall 2010 collections are anything to go by, it has dug its blackberry lacquered talons into makeup too.

This year’s Tom Ford collection saw grave-faced models strutting down the catwalk made up in bruised hues à la Tim Burton: deathly pallor smattered with deep maroons, plums and purples. Meanwhile, Dior have eschewed that old beauty gospel of “less is more” in favor of rouged lips and vamped up eyes to match. If this sounds one step too far into the Sleepy Hollow forest, there is a milder option, with muted palettes of lilac available at MAC. The full look however, requires a little more bravery—this is not a trend for the faint-hearted.
