These planes have been circling over Camille’s home for the past two years. At about the same time, she began to suffer from chest inflammation. Is this a coincidence? Or could her problem be caused by “chemtrails”?
The chemtrails theory – planes dumping toxins into the air to intentionally make citizen’s sick, resulting in big profits for pharmaceutical companies – is one of many conspiracy theories out there. Although skeptics might chalk this theory up to nothing more than mistaken correlation-as-causation (the idea that since two things occur at the same time, one causes the other), in Spain, a growing body of people are tirelessly searching for the “truth.” Don’t call them “Conspiracy Theorists,” though. Rather, the collective wants to be looked upon as a group wishing to share love and knowledge in an attempt to save the human race.
Camille, a former antiques dealer, lived in California for many years. After getting married and moving to Sweden, she returned to her native Spain a few years ago. And she has been researching the “truth” every day for eight years, communicating through Facebook with other searchers and contacting US politicians potentially interested in her research. She began investigating various theories but turned her focus to chemtrails after experiencing her health issues two years ago. Since then, she’s started a Chemtrails Barcelona group on Facebook with the help of her son Oliver Avalon.
“What they (planes) are spewing out are poisons and they disperse all over our cities and towns. If this was merely a project to guard against global warming, as many have suggested, then why do they always concentrate the chemtrails over cities and towns?” Camille points out. If the planes were conducting “Geoengineering” (an experimental method intended to combat global warming involving planes seeding man-made clouds that reflect solar radiation), why not “target the areas outside of population areas,” she suggests. “I see this as a direct attack on us,” she emphatically states.
Who might be responsible for staging these alleged attacks? Another Spanish “truth” seeker, a 30-year-old Andalucia resident who goes by the pseudonym “Uadynar Lives,” tells us that it is The Illuminati. The Illuminati may sound familiar, as they appeared in Dan Brown’s Angels and Demons. In the novel, this legendary and powerful secret society founded by the Bavarians in 1776 plotted to destroy Vatican City. Hailed as “The Enlightened Ones,” they were also rumored to be Satan worshippers.
Uadynar claims this group is real, and together with other powerful secret societies like it have been behind-the scenes of major historical world events, as well as represent the forces behind chemtrails, “false flus” and what he calls “fake terrorism.” For Uadynar, the fateful events of 9- 11 were a catalyst that set him on the path to the “truth.” Stunned by the scale of the attacks, he began to search for answers.
“I suddenly woke up,” he recalls. “I will no longer be manipulated. I know ‘them’; I know where they are, who they are, and what they are trying to gain.” By “them”, he refers to a group of 100 leaders who he claims operate secretly and in pursuit of a powerful and destructive agenda. This group, known as the Bilderberg Club, like the Iluminati are working towards world domination and the establishment of a New World Order (NWO). Purportedly, software mogul Bill Gates and diplomat Henry Kissinger are mixed up in this.
Camille tapped into the Bilderberg Club as well while researching 9-11. She claims this group in particular is so secretive that no one will discuss it. Together with Camille and other “truth” seekers, Barcelona-area journalist Rafael Palacios is trying to out the secrets of this alleged secret group. Rafael publishes articles, videos and research on the NWO and the Illuminati in his newspaper El Jaque Mate and conspiracy theory blog.
Rafael and Camille talk about a significant shift in power, a time when one strong, world government (the NOW) will take over. According to Rafael, Camille and Uadynar, the Illuminati and Bilderberg are pushing for this to occur. Most everyone has heard about the dreaded 2012 date, when the Mayan Long Count calendar ends. It also represents the date when the supposed shift in world power will happen—a mere two years away, hence the desperation of these “truth” seekers.
But what if it’s all just fantasy, fabrications that exist only in the minds of conspiracy theorists? Barcelona expatriate Andrew Parsons, a motion graphic artist and “professional skeptic,” explains that there is as “a natural need (for people) to explain their context and things that they do not understand.” He claims this need represents “the origin of science, religion, pseudoscience and any other way of explaining reality. What happens with conspiracy theorists is their need for explaining things often gets mixed with personal ideas that get worked backwards.”
Parsons gives an example of how a conspiracy is created: “On Friday, October 13 – surely this date rings a bell – of 1307, King Phillip IV of France ordered the arrest of The Knights Templar. A powerful military order and protectors of the pilgrims going to Jerusalem (also said to be protectors of The Holy Grail), this group grew so rich and powerful that the church became afraid of them.” According to Parsons, “The King of France owed the Templars huge amounts of money that had to be paid with land. In a week, all Templars in Europe were beheaded, burnt, demonized and said to be devil worshipers.” According to Andrew, some questioned whether such a powerful order could have been dismantled with such apparent ease. Andrew claims this creates a “perfect ground for fantasy theories.”
He goes further, stating, “The word ‘theory’ itself means that there is no actual physical proof of something that is being enunciated. It just takes a little bit of research to bring down a conspiracy theory. They are usually backed up by doctors, scientists and ancient book prophecies that if looked closely turn out to be bloggers or pet-shop owners with a lot of free time.” He may have a point, but some “conspiracy theorists” are individuals with reputable jobs and reams of data, videos and other evidence that back up their claims.
So it’s hard to know who’s telling the “truth.” If one side claims the other is lying and manipulating facts, who can ensure they aren’t doing the same thing: twisting facts into false reality? Maybe there is something to Andrew’s assertion that there is a human need to provide an explanation and context, at whatever cost. And who is easier to blame than our oft-criticized world leaders? Or is it all just too much to accept as potentially true: chemtrails, Bilderberg, a New World Order? Is this just too paranoid? Who really knows? Perhaps Elvis and Michael Jackson are making music together and we’ll yet witness their comeback—that is, if the world doesn’t end in 2012.
