I love buying magazines in January and finding out what’s hot and what’s not for the new year. Cool new gadgets, makeup, restaurants, workouts, fashion, whatever. And, I have to admit, I try most of them out. As fun as this is, it obviously never adds any real value to my year. So I decided to create my own list. Want to create a hot year and body for 2012? Here is what to drop and what to bring into the New Year:

Leave behind…

Bleached, refined white flour – unhealthy and tasteless. Replace this with whole grain artisan bread. Delicious and healthy, high in fiber and nutrients. My fave is whole grain spelt and seed bread from Barcelona Reykjavik.

Bring into 2012…

Step out of your comfort zone. Ask yourself, “What do I want to achieve in 2012”? Set goals that get you excited and that will challenge you to be better.

Leave behind…

Sugar. The more you eat, the more you crave. If you want more energy throughout the day and a lean body, you gotta cut it out.

Bring into 2012…

Move it! Don’t have time to exercise? Do you have time to feel like sh*t? All you need is 12 to 20 minutes a day. Yes, I said 12 to 20. Short, intense workouts are really effective at increasing muscle and burning fat. No more excuses.

Leave behind…

Clothes you haven’t worn for a year. You won’t wear it next year either. Donate it. Someone will be grateful you did. Get rid of stuff you don’t need and watch what starts to come into your life.

Bring into 2012…

Healthy fat: olive oil, avocadoes, raw nuts and seeds, flax and fish oil. These fats improve your skin, reduce inflammation, give you a healthy heart and fight stress.
