Miniguide introduced themselves as a magazine aimed at foreign people living in Barcelona, so we have to write in English. Well, it's the first time for us writing in your language but it can't be more difficult than trying to get off with a British girl on a holiday. In fact, almost everything else in life is more difficult than that. So let's get started!
We were invited by Miniguide to attend the Beefeater or Gordon's (sorry we don't remember) In-Edit Music Documentary Festival 2011. We were going to see some films anyway, so it was good to go for free. Previously, we’d been taking money from other blogs who wanted us to write for them about music, so writing about film was something new for us, but no problem, we dominate all branches of culture.
We definitely lived some of the best moments of the festival in line before getting inside the cinema. It was very exciting arriving early to the line, not to get the best seats, but to be a spectator of a real hipster catwalk: dozens of people gathering and posing with their best outfits. Geeky glasses, padded waistcoats, berets and even some walking sticks! How amazing!
It’s funny how you see the same faces at every documentary, the same indie faces waiting in line, checking your outfit is ok and thinking “Shit, I love the pair of Campers this guy is wearing.” And then you see the same guy two days later with your sneakers and then he realizes now what he wants is your jacket because it’s colder than the other day. But we always fight that admiration feeling down. One of the main indie rules is NOT demonstrating fascination with any other person.
Well, these are the documentaries we saw:
The Libertines: There Are No Innocent Bystanders
Talihina Sky: The Story of Kings of Leon
Message to Love: Isle of Wight Festival
Papagordo. En casa de Raimundo Amador
George Harrison: Living in the Material World
We also saw David Bowie: Cracked Actor but we respect him so much we don't dare to criticize it. Well, the real reason is that we didn't understand a fucking word of his mad thoughts. On the other hand, we didn't see the winning documentary of the festival: Last Days Here. Probably a biopic about Amy, we don't know, but we are not very concerned about this.
We had no more desire to see any other films, so we sold the remaining tickets for a ludicrous price. Well, that's all, thank you Miniguide for the free passes – we mean for reading, cheers.
