Where: C/ de la Perla, 26
When: Thurs-Sat 8pm-3am
Why we like it: Renowned by heavy metal fans around the city, it’s the spot where they go to relax and have a beer with friends. Covered with concert posters and playing a great range of metal and rock tunes, the bar also offers a pool table for a friendly game or two.

What: Valhalla Club
Where: C/ Tallers, 68
When: Mon-Sun 6pm-3am
Why we like it: Clad in black with dim lighting, the bar screams heavy metal. Jordi Coll, a local metal fan, recommends the place for its spaciousness, perfect for taking a seat and enjoying the live music or DJ sets. Every Sunday DJs Seagull and Endlos play authentic Goth rock, post-punk, death rock and more.
What: Tequila Bar
Where: C/ Escudellers, 28
When: Mon-Thurs 10pm-2.30am, Fri-Sat 6pm-3am, Sun 10pm-2.30am
Why we like it: Write your favorite tune on a piece of paper, hand it to the bartender and it’s on—that’s why it’s Black Sabbath fan Paula Cerdà’s favorite metal bar. There are also personal headphone sets hanging above the bar, to listen to tracks more intensely, projected DVDs and a long list of delicious tequilas.

What: Rocka-Rolla
Where: C/ Escudellers, 45
When: Mon-Thurs 6pm-2.30am, Fri-Sat 6pm-3am
Why we like it: Owners Eva and Cristina are true metal fans, not only are they in charge but they DJ and bartend as well. Eva throws on hard rock and 80s tunes, while her sister gets down to trash and hardcore. The central location promises a good mixture of locals and metal-headed tourists.
