Monopoly is moving on up and getting a face lift with a brand new board which will be released into stores later this year.

Monopoly has carried on despite a long history of hardships: Fidel Castro ordered copies of the game destroyed in Cuba and it was banned throughout the former Soviet Union. The classic board game, which has players buying up the most properties, houses and hotels they can without going bankrupt, barely made it to production.

Charles Darrow’s first attempt at patenting the game in 1934 was rejected because of 52 errors in its design. The board game finally hit the shelves in 1935. Now in its 75th year, Hasbro has upgraded the game to go with the times. The new round board called Monopoly Revolution made its debut at the 2010 American International Toy Fair in New York. It has more realistic property prices, a debit card system (complete with a pin number and electronic banker) and players now get $20 million, instead of a measly $200 as they pass Go. Monopoly will be moving on up and into stores later this year.
