Galeria Kavel opens its doors, presenting the work of quirky, new artists.

Stepping into the small Galeria Kavel, situated in the heart of Eixample, is like entering into a world filled with the owner’s personal “style, art and humor.” An artist herself, the British Kavel Rafferty looks for unique work to fill the space.

“When I see it, I know it,” she says of the items she chooses for the gallery. The white walls are covered with prints from various artists showing their works in Spain for the first time. English artist Rob Ryan’s tiles featuring adorable prints like one of two birds kissing and the phrase “Every beat of my heart” sit on shelves. Other neat knick-knacks include funky faced fake tattoos by illustrator Nick White and bunny stamped beer mats (coasters) by Kim Jenkins for Lucky Bird. There is a boutique in the back filled with purses and makeup bags in different sizes, colors and patterns by Catalan designers Crisálda Confeccions. Along with the long list of artists, Rafferty’s own work combining various techniques to produce pieces that have been deemed “happy, sad” are also on display. It’s almost impossible to leave empty handed with the gallery’s creative goods priced below their potential worth.
