Socks make their appearance on the runway, outside of shoes.

How much can actually be said about a pair of socks? Perhaps nothing a few months ago, but now that the feet warming protectors are showing themselves on international runways, it’s time to get the lowdown.

Never have socks seen such an overhauling in fashion history. Once hidden within shoes, they have finally been liberated, exposing themselves to the public eye. Burberry Prorsum teamed beige socks with platforms and mini-dresses on the runway and Alexander Wang too favored neutral tones, but paired his sheer clothing with thick, knee-high lengths. Perhaps the biggest celeb devotee of the recent trend is fashion queen bee Alexa Chung. Picked as British Vogue’s most fashionable woman of 2009, Chung always gets her socks just right. Pairing thigh-high black socks with knee-high boots and denim shorts or slouchy cotton numbers with ankle boots and short skirts, she is the go-to lady for acing this springtime look. Follow in her sock-clad footsteps with something from Calzedonia, the sock Mecca, offering an array of fabric, color and length to fill any empty sock drawer.
