For a while now, there has been a growing group of consumers demanding more from their cosmetics. They are asking for ecological, natural products without the preservatives and additives derived from petrol (such as paraffin and petrolatum) or the parabens family of chemicals, believed to be carcinogenic. Pioneers of the natural product movement The Body Shop recently made their hair range entirely eco-friendly and paraben-free, and brands such as Weleda, Selvert Thermal and Greenpeople, stocked in specialist shops, sell products made from certified organic ingredients.

You can also make your own beauty products at home using different types of oil such as argan, almond, or coconut and adding essential oils like lavender (for relaxation) or mandarin (a stimulant) to make anything from a moisturizing body cream to a nourishing hair mask. There are also companies offering handmade personalized cosmetics online, such as El Rincón de Sabta who make incredible bespoke face and body creams, an exfoliant with pure cacao which is good enough to eat and some divine oil-based perfumes. There is also El Hamman Ifoulki which sell specialist products from Morocco like pure argan oil, khol, and some amazing body oils for combating cellulite and overall skin-firming, as well as Dale Candela, who sell a range 100% natural products, including aromatherapy and products made with Moroccan argan oil.

Ecological cosmetics are chemical-free and so are not only environmentally friendly, but also better for our bodies; they’re often cheaper too. Give it a try!
