New kid on the eco-gadget block, the Nokia Bicycle Charger guarantees users will be able to charge up their phones whether they’re in Barcelona or Nairobi. Useful in areas of the world where energy resources are scarce or unreliable, the device relies on bicycle peddle-power to generate electricity. The compact cell phone charger (attached between the handlebars) is a simple solution to the dead battery dilemma—so long as the person peddling goes faster than 6 km/h.

As well as encouraging cell phone users to exercise more, the charger, which hits the market at the end of the year, has the added virtue of being environmentally friendly. Bicycle enthusiasts will be pleased to hear that the gadget is shock resistant, and comes with a clear case to protect it from daily wear and tear. It is not, however, compatible with other brands, so only Nokia users (with a 2mm charger interface) need apply. It will no doubt be a welcome addition to the world of sustainable gadgetry.
