Always an innovator, British designer Vivienne Westwood has created an exclusive range of plastic footwear in collaboration with popular Brazilian brand Melissa. Released as part of the Anglomania collection and providing a contemporary twist on classic designs such as the Mary Jane and ballet pump, the shoes are made from PVC and endeavour to offer the less financially-endowed a chance to own a piece of modern design. It seems Westwood has chosen the partnership wisely: Melissa has already successfully collaborated with members of the fashion elite Jean-Paul Gaultier and Thierry Mugler to rave reviews. The shoes come in a range of striking colours and finishes, each lovingly embossed with the Westwood trademark to ensure that everyone knows just how much you’ve splurged on treating your feet. The jury is still out on whether the creators completely disregarded comfort as a factor in the design process, but if Brazilian women can brave it, why can’t we? In the world of fashion, beauty is pain!
