Director Annemarie Jacir directs this compelling film about a woman traveling back to her roots. Soraya (Suheir Hammad), a Palestinian woman born in Brooklyn, discovers that her grandfather’s bank account was frozen years ago when he was exiled. Seeing as the money belongs to her family, she is determined to get it back. She realizes that this is the perfect excuse to travel back to her homeland. When she is there she meets Emad (Saled Bakri), a young Palestinian man. However, she quickly finds that expectations can easily be shattered. This romantic drama reveals the multitude of obstacles faced during the political unrest and subsequent violence in Palestine, where everything is not always what it seems.
