La Verbena de San Juan the night of June 23rd is probably Barcelona’s biggest party. It celebrates the beginning of summer with the solstice on June 21st, the longest day of the year. We all take advantage of this lovely daylight and party on the beach until the wee hours of the morning.
Now I would be lying if I said I never enjoyed a glass of cava or two or made my way down to Barceloneta to celebrate this evening. However, there are more important things to think about during the summer solstice than simply drinking cava and eating coca.
The solstices mark turning points and new energy beginnings in the year, making them powerful times to set intentions and create new routines and commitments. So this year, why not try something different when you wake up on June 24th? First, skip the coffee and grab a glass of coconut water. This will rehydrate you and therefore get rid of your hangover a lot quicker. For breakfast, don’t opt for the usual post hangover grease. Instead, enjoy a super power breakfast smoothie. It’s loaded with nutrients, will make you feel a lot better and it tastes fantastic!
And finally, set aside an hour for yourself. Find a quiet, comfortable spot and sit with a pad of paper and a pen. Use this time to reflect on the first half of the year. Are you on the right track, or did you slip off somewhere? Do you want to add to you previous goals or start fresh and create new ones? I know this may be different than how you usually spend el día de San Juan. But just try it out once and see what happens. I promise that it will be better than sitting on the couch all day.
