Traditionalists who prefer their computers to resemble more a piece of furniture than a fashionable pocket accessory will find all that and more in Microsoft’s latest invention – a table computer. This state of the art lounge addition employs a 30 inch multi-touch screen, with no keyboard or mouse control required. Multiple users take a hands-on approach to controlling and manipulating the computer, and object recognition technology enables visual file sharing without the need for cables or leads. Simply place your digital camera on the tabletop screen and use your fingers to pull out, edit and enlarge photos digitally. Initially designed for the hospitality industry, experts predict that within only a few years of its launch Surface will be an affordable option for those aspiring kings and queens of coffee morning society. And yes, you can use it as a conventional table – just don’t spill anything!
