There was no more exciting of a pastime as a little girl than to laze around in the backyard on a hot summer’s day or curl up by the fireplace when the weather grew cold reading about the best club that every existed in literature. The unique characters in the Baby-Sitters Club, including Kristy, Claudia, Mary Anne and Stacey seemed to have it all: great friends, cool babysitting jobs and just the perfect touch of troubles.
As young girls now take in TV shows with teens dressed in Chanel downing shots of Absolute vodka and discussing sex, the days of innocence seem to be lost. That is until Scholastic showed us a light at the end of the tunnel, revealing the April 2010 re-release of the first two volumes of Ann M. Martin’s series. The new books are targeting a younger audience, repackaged with slight story changes and come with an additional prequel, The Summer Before, about the girls before the club came together. Modern-day tomboys and boy lovers alike can finally enjoy the wonderful adventures of the Baby-Sitters Club and maybe us old-timers will even pick up a few copies. AP
