The Hidden People’s founder, Amelie Malmgren, explains that the project “is first and foremost a relevant platform for artists, established as well as emerging, which offers the possibility of reaching out to a large audience and possible clients in an instant.” What began as a standard cultural website has become a virtual meeting place for creatives: “Over the years, our project has also taken on the form of a searching tool and a virtual spot where people go to contact other creatives, exchange ideas or simply for inspiration.”
Back in 2008 when the website was launched, Amelie and her team began an avid search for interesting new talent. She explains that the rapid rise in the website’s profile means that they now have artists approaching them to ask for support. But Amelie has no intention of resting on her laurels; she feels strongly about the need to support emerging artists: “Most important is to keep on growing and extend our network for artists and cultural activists. We believe that if you’re talented you should be given the opportunity to express yourself.”
And the future’s looking bright for The Hidden People. Amelie’s vision continues to stretch: “At the moment we are working on setting up an online gallery and shop where artists can both expose and sell their work.” The Hidden People aren’t looking so hidden anymore.
