How does the old adage go, “one can never be too rich or too thin”? Or is it too exposed to good art? Well whatever it may be, the latter would describe Barcelonans, constantly presented with innovative artists’ work with galleries popping up nearly every month. The newcomer to the scene is the alternative aDa Gallery, which opened its doors back in December with an excellent jewelry exhibition by Cvaldespina, an “alchemist” turning recycled goods into golden pieces.
The owner of the gallery, Isabel Capdevila Sabanés, sought to create a gallery that would give back to the Raval, a neighborhood she grew up in. For that reason, she chooses artists working to protect their surroundings. Her future goal is to have Saturday workshops, in which kids can work with exhibiting artists to learn about recycling as an art form. Recycled cinema posters were the canvas for Lladres de Cartells by Leandro Balaguer, on until February 20th. Sakia Lange’s Along the Nile will follow Balaguer’s exhibition with an opening on February 26th, featuring Egyptian theme decorations, dance performances and video projections.
