This is a day for looking your best, so it’s important to get your make-up just right. I’ve got three different looks for you to choose from: sweet and romantic, for traditional girls; daring and dramatic, for girls with a bit of punch; and the ultimate statement, for the theatrical. For the first two looks, use overall pink shades (the classic option) but feel free to substitute with lilacs or purples for a more on-trend look, or with skin tones for a more natural one. I recommend using name-brand products only, but you can also just use whatever you have at home; the main thing is the overall effect.

For the romantic look, use Estée Lauder products: a base, a translucent powder, neutral eyeshadow, mascara, pink blush and lips painted a pale pink or nude. All products are available at selected cosmetics stores.

For the daring look, I prefer MAC Cosmetics’s Stylishly Yours collection: red, pin-up style lips, a clean complexion with base and matte powder, fuchsia pink eye shadow topped with black eyeliner, and a heavy coat of mascara. You can find the products at the MAC Pro shop, or El Corte Inglés department stores.

And finally, I give you the most extreme look of them all, as proposed by Illamasqua with the collection Throb: use a white, clown-style base to create a heart that covers the eyes, nose and mouth, with strongly defined eyebrows, thick eyeliner, false eyelashes, red lips, extreme blush and the rest of the face painted dark to highlight the outline. Only for the brave. Products are available from Illamasqua’s website.

Have a perfect Valentine’s Day whichever style you go for, just remember to take off your make-up before you go to bed.
