“The sound of ET walking was made with jelly.” “Blue birds (poor things) can’t see the colour blue.” These nuggets of wisdom come thanks to Learn Something Everyday, a site created by UK-based design firm, Young.

Two months after setting up their studio, Pete Jarvis and Gethin Vaughan came up with the idea for LSE over drinks at a local pub. As Pete explains, “We wanted to produce something that was in line with our ethos: playful, inquisitive and fun.” They began creating graphic interpretations of random facts, later asking for submissions from Internet users via their website. Of course, not every “lesser-known fact” makes it into a design, most of which are available for purchase as American Apparel tees. The duo, who get about 20 tidbits a day, fact check the submissions and as Pete points out, “if they sound dubious we don’t put them in, although even the most bizarre facts sometimes prove to be true.” The best fact of the month (as judged by Pete and Gethin) is fashioned into a “super special” poster and awarded to the fact submitter.
