No....this will not be an in-depth look at a possible upcoming sequel to Tom Cruise's 80s bar flick Cocktail, although Cocktails and Kebabs ain't bad as a title for a second film, but this is a quick word about a trend often scoffed at, a night started at a cocktail bar, that ends at a kebab house. I think it is high time this trend gets the praise it is due and that instead of standard pub crawls, tour guides should think about the infinite possibilities like martinis and falafel, gin n tonics and pizza and even daquiris and burgers.

The city is filled with great, dressy places to get cocktails. But, if you have ventured out, all gussied up and skipped a meal, a bit after the second cocktail, the body is yearning for some food. Since budgets are tight, many times the places we hit up for cocktails, are a bit too pricey to also have a meal and so, rather random combinations for a night out happen instead.

I am absolutely pro cocktails and kebabs, starting off with pricey and pretty cocktails at places like Marmalade and the Visit Up terrace at the Hotel Pulitzer. Then, heading to Kilim on Rambla de Raval for a 3.50 euro kebab, which FYI, if there is no space at their outdoor dining terrace, the Kilim staff go inside and bring the 'indoor' tables and chairs out to customers, something seldom seen in the city. A stop by the Maoz Falafel stand, the one on Ferran, or next to the Boquería, where you can create your own alcohol-absorbing feast in your LBD (little black dress) is also a good option.

So, dressed up and chin up, cocktails and kebabs are in!

Any other cocktails and kebabers out there????? Or other random combos for a night out????

Cocktails and kebabs are indeed a classy combination, though I always try to remember to pack a bib in my handbag so I don't get salsa picante down my best dress.

Ever thought about cava and curry? You could start the evening with a chilled bottle of Cordoniu on Montjuic for the sunset then head back onto Rambla de Raval for a nice dal and naan.
