When my friends began to make plans for this year's cava fest -which, in my eight or so years yo-yo-ing between the US and Barcelona, I have never once attended, although I have finished off many a glass of cava at other people's homes using the souvenir glasses they give out each year- I got a little bumbed. I had already booked an 'escape' to Madrid for this long holiday weekend -also my bday weekend- as a pleasant surprise though, I found out the cava will not only be flowing in Catalunya, but also in Madrid!

For all of you staying in BCN and the surrounding areas, Sant Sadurni d'Anoia, a 40 minute train ride from Barcelona is the place to be for Cava Tast '09 happening the 10th-12th. In addition to the sparkling wine, they will have food, like fideua and dishes with local produce and meats drenched in bubbly, on offer.

If you happen to be in Madrid, Plaza Mayor is where all the cava craziness, known as Vendimia de Cava, will take place on Saturday, October 10th ---I already know the place will be packed as it was absolute HELL to find a hostel for the long weekend, nearly everything was booked up and I'm just praying the one I made a reservation at is not infested with too many creepy crawlers, what won't help my chances of unscariness is the fact that when I made the reservation and hung up, I said adeu to the madrileño, and from experience, nothing but bad things can be brought from that, I am considering stuffing my pack now with extra clean sheets and towels, just in case. Back to the cava, if you have just celebrated or will celebrate your 50th bday this year and bring your DNI to prove it, you will be rewarded with a bottle of bubbly -now I wish I was gonna be 50 and not 31- to all the others who have not yet met the 50 mark, you'll receive -FOR FREE, OJO!- a glass of cava and tapa.

With that, adeu and see you back in Barcelona with a resaca on Tuesday ----Monday is a holiday folks, enjoy the day off!
