Miniguide's picks of the best holiday happenings around town, so bust out the bells and holly...

The weather has chilled, it is time to dust off the brandy bottle from last year, slice up some oranges for mulled wine/spiced wine/Glühwein (whatever it is called in your home), the holidays have officially arrived.

We've been flooded with emails about different holiday events happening around BCN. So get a merry band of friends together, start off with that hot, cinnamon and clove infused wine and a round of secret Santa gifting – remember, be generous with your gift, karma has a funny way of acting when you go cheap, which happened to me several years ago when I ended up the last to pick a gift and got the very crappy bag of chocolates I had brought to a party, at least go for some Ferrero Rocher or Lindt. Keep that festive mood going with a holiday DVD viewing (A Christmas Story and The Muppet Christmas Carol are at the top of my list), put on "Last Christmas" by Wham, and if you have it, The Muppets and John Denver Christmas album and when you are all in the merriest of moods, venture out to one of these fine holiday fiestas and happenings.

Happy Holidays everyone, see you in 2010 and don't forget to buy that red underwear for New Year's Eve – it's rumored to bring luck in love in the coming yr!

Relaxing foot massage every Wednesday at Dale Candela from 5pm-8pm: (Eixample) We thought we would throw something on the list for all of you with weary feet from pounding Puerta del Angel, Portaferrissa and Passeig De Gràcia in search of gifts for both friends and family. The lovely people at Dale Candela, the place for candles and aromatherapy, are offering relaxing foot massages very Wednesday (except the 23rd and 30th). Their 20 minute sessions include: A warm foot bath with their relaxing bath salts and a relaxing foot massage with their precious Argan oil for feet, for only €15.

Free bottle of cava with dinner at Tapa Tapa Maremagnum: (Barceloneta) Here's a nice idea after wearing out your feet Christmas shopping at the Maremagnum shopping center: a tapas dinner with friends while gazing out over the port. Our friends at Tapa Tapa Maremagnum are offering a free bottle of cava (minimum group of four) to Miniguide readers, just mention you saw it here when calling +34 93 225 86 97 to reserve.

    Hi Giorgio,

Yes indeed these are hotels, actually Love Hotels. They are not organizing any special party but rather you bring the party to them (with that special someone).

The love hotels ensures discretion in the sense that they ensure no one will see you or your loved one within the hotel. Historically these places have been used by philandering men and women, but also to spice things up with your partner!

    Best,

    Michael
