For the article, we were lucky to interview Dita Von Teese, crowned the 'Queen' of neo-burlesque by the press. All it took to track the racy performer down were a couple hundred emails and calls, persistence, worth all the sweat and cramped emailing and dialing fingers!
Then it was on to tracking down the acts in Barcelona, where there are many. In addition to Evita Mansfield, The Chili Cats, Melitta Honeycup and silent burlesque duo Javier and Barbara are working hard to make sure the trend catches on and sticks. It seems it has, just take a look at some of the current fashions on the streets, that are going for a nostalgic rockabilly sense with colorful bandanas tied as headbands and the prominence of tatooed ladies with hugging skirts and fishnet stockings.
Taboo, the monthly burlesque night at Sala Apolo started last month, and, well, here at Miniguide, we are bursting with excitement to see this month's edition with our girl, Evita. The Apolo goes all out in the Taboo decoration with large light bulb chandeliers hanging in the main stage area, 20 small candlelit tables, spiked punch offered at the bar and even ladies in corsets, again, heavily tattooed, walking around selling lollipops, although selling tobacco would be a bit more profitable, but that's just my thought.
So, check back tomorrow to see how it all went, or get onto the Apolo website now and snatch up tickets to see the burlesque performing for yourself. All those with pimped out custom cars get in free, just be sure to confirm attendance and get your parking spot.
