For those who are new to the concept of calçots: they are variety of large scallion that are in abundance in Catalunya at the start of spring. In homage to the delicious vegetable, Catalans throw parties where the calçots are charred to smoky deliciousness over hot coals. They are served with romesco sauce, made from red peppers, almonds and lots of garlic. It is impossible to eat a calçot daintily; hungry diners get their hands and faces dirty downing the blackened gems in one go.
It’s apt then that Moritz should continue the theme of naughtiness and frivolity by throwing some cabaret into the mix. Diners will be treated to what Moritz describes as “an original spectacle of bizarre puppets” to accompany their feast in circus-like tents. If that isn’t temptation enough, remember the parties will be taking place at the top of Montjuïc, so before tucking in, you can watch the sun set along the Catalan coastline. But don’t forget the greatest venues tend to be the hardest to reach; to find La Caseta del Migdia you will need to head to Castell de Montjuïc and follow signs for the bar.
