    Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, the play that garnered Tennessee Williams (née Thomas Lanier Williams) his second Pulitzer Prize in 1955, will be the first work performed on the newly renovated Teatre Lliure de Gràcia stage in September. Touching on themes like homosexuality and alcoholism and set in Williams’s beloved south – he changed his name to Tennessee in honor of the southern birth state of his father – the play ushers in a new era for the theater that has been shut for the past seven years.

    The popular play tells of the demise of decadent living in the US south as a family reunites in the extravagant home of their patriarch to celebrate his birthday. The lead couple of Brick (a washed up American football player) and Maggie (a gold-digger) were made legendary thanks to performances by Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor in the 1958 screen adaptation of the play. To unveil the new stage in Gràcia, Teatre Lliure has TV and film actors Joan Carreras and Chantal Aimée inhabiting the roles of Brick and Maggie, under the direction of Àlex Rigola, Lliure’s artistic director.

      While Teatre Lliure typically offers subtitles of their works in English two nights a week, because the Teatre Lliure Gràcia space is re-opening after extensive renovations, they will not offer English subtitles for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, which will be in performed in Catalan.

      Is this play in English or in catalan or in Castillian? Also the theatre's website seems under construction for the Gracia site. Any suggestions on this matter?
