Fauna y Flora is the latest project from the VWorkshop Collective. Chances are, whether you realized it or not, you have seen their creations at some time in Barcelona. Marga López and Joan Tarragó are a creative duo who refuse to limit their artistic style. Give them a skateboard and they’ll carve Aztec prints into it. Give them a t-shirt and they’ll daub it in crazy lines of color.

The pair have a distinctive style; their art is intricate and with a characteristic “doodle” technique. Their adaptability lies in the fact that they are as likely to create Russian dolls as they are classic prints. They have worked with major brands including Nike, Quiksilver and Converse, but they remain admirably down to earth, working on their own fanzine (Fuckingdoit) and exhibiting in local galleries.

Their show this month at Miscelanea will take us to a magical world of mystical creatures and sacred symbolism. Joan tends to create the images, while Marga focuses on typography and intricate patterns. Enter Miscelanea’s small and inviting gallery space and you will be stepping into the bizarre forest that is Marga and Joan’s minds. This is a place where creatures are headless, the landscapes are organic and creeping and images have a fairytale quality.

Marga and Joan enjoy using natural and recycled materials, so you can expect to see their creations built out of anything from driftwood to plastic crates. Miscelanea’s website hints at installation art that will transform the space it resides within. Each of VWorkshop’s exhibitions has offered something new and unexpected, always pushing creative boundaries. Come for the next installment in their meandering story.
