Hot on the heels of July's FIRE!! festival, the Barcelona International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival (FICGLB) returns this month with another great selection of LGBT cinema, moving across multiple genres and tackling themes such as teen suicide, loneliness in old age and homosexuality in Islam.

Highlights of the 2011 cycle include documentaries Becoming Chaz, the story of Chaz Bono (formerly Chastity, daughter of Sonny and Cher) and his decision to undergo sex reassignment surgery, and Alessando Golinelli's Angels on Death Row: The Ebrahim Hamidi Case, which tells the story of the Iranian teenager sentenced to death for his alleged homosexuality. In the fiction categories, a must-see is Oliver Hermanus's Skoonheid, an exploration of lust and obsession as shown through the secret desires of a conservative Afrikaans man.

Uniting films from all over the globe, this year's program will begin with a special event celebrating the LGBT cinema of Latin America at Casa Amèrica Catalunya on October 27th before the festival's official opening at the Filmoteca de Catalunya on October 28th.
