Barcelona’s foodies can finally die happy. This March a festival devoted entirely to two of life’s greatest pleasures premieres in Barcelona. Film&Cook is the city’s first film festival dedicated entirely to food on celluloid. Each film screening over the four-day event will be accompanied by a related talk or demonstration.

No Catalan food festival would be complete without an appearance from the godfather of gastronomy himself: Ferran Adrià. The event proudly presents the first screening of El Bulli: Cooking in Progress, a documentary delving behind the scenes of what has often been crowned the number one restaurant in the world. Unless you’ve been on a desert island over the past five years you’ll already know that El Bulli, Adrià’s brainchild, heralded a new era in creative cookery. It was virtually impossible to get a table there and last year Adrià announced it had opened its doors for the last time. So if you haven’t been, this documentary will be the closest you’ll ever get to living the El Bulli experience. Adrià himself will be in attendance to give a talk after the screening.

Other screenings include Mediterranean Diet, followed by a demonstration of Mediterranean cuisine by Carme Ruscalleda, head chef at three Michelin-starred restaurant Sant Pau; and the German farce Soul Kitchen, with a talk by renowned chef Mey Hofmann of the prestigious Barcelona culinary school that bears her name. There’s even a screening of 24 Hour Party People, a thinly veiled excuse for an after party with DJs and cocktails. Move quickly if you want tickets; Barcelona is a city full of creative food lovers and this festival is likely to prove to be just what we’ve all been waiting for.
