Harnessing the organizers’ years of professional experience in various artistic fields and media, the festival aims to develop and display dance performances produced in close contact with audiovisual or media software, fusing traditions old and new to showcase physical and virtual presences. Open at Mercat de les Flors, each of the performances or installations presented will be new to Barcelona, so both novices and experts alike are bound to find something fresh and exciting to pique their curiosity.
Previous sessions have featured both local and international artists who work across the borders of arts and technologies such as Barcelona’s interdisciplinary collective Konic or Belgian dance company MUTIN, and last year’s festival included workshops which were open to the public. The festival will also premiere the three Catalan productions awarded grants in the VideoDansa Projects Competition and also features the VideoDansa, Barcelona Prize, an international competition which awards originality and commitment to artistic and social themes and also gives dance fans an insight into the trends which are sweeping the current videodance scene.
This recommendation comes from InTheMotion, a contemporary performing arts consultancy and communications group.
