Word has spread fast; only two months down the line, the Juice party people are already looking at moving to a bigger venue to accommodate the growing crowds who get their swagger on to resident Belgian “first lady” DJ Kisa’s vinyl collection (extra kudos for having a girl behind the decks). As well as getting people on the dancefloor with a special concoction of hip hop, soul and “good old funky breaks,” organizer Leon Jackson tells us that Juice is also about giving them “an avenue to express themselves and deliver a positive message to Barcelona” through different mediums of creativity such as fashion and film.
Such an open-armed welcome from the city’s clubbing public seems proof that fans of hip hop are pretty keen to get their hands on more alternatives to the slick, commercial hip hop being played at the big clubs. The Juice vibe may be ice cool – dress code “street and chic” – but without being in the least bit intimidating; head straight to the floor and whip out your finest booty shake, or just hang back and watch the breakdance videos being projected on the walls. Friend their Facebook page for updates on upcoming parties, and not to mention some killer tunes.
