Born in 1974, Moroccan artist Latifa Echakhch uses the viewpoint of her personal experience to challenge our presupposed ideas of religion, politics and nation, analyzing the socio-political implications of globalization. Removing everyday objects with strong symbolic value from their normal context, she allows pieces to acquire a new meaning and uncovers the social codes and stereotypes that lie hidden behind them. In this exhibition, Echakhch has created a new sculptural work especially for MACBA, a piece that will no doubt be of great interest to both sculptural fans and to those with an interest in religious and cultural identities.
