The bi-annual LP festival returns for its third edition this year, filling up March with over three weeks of contemporary dance, visual and performance art, talks and workshops. Directed by Carmelo Salazar and Oscar Dasí, this is a festival in constant motion, changing with each cycle as it incorporates more new, exciting and important acts into its exploration of body, movement and action.

Taking place at La Porta, Mercat de les Flors, CCCB and La Poderosa, this year’s carefully choreographed program sees various international figures making their Barcelona debut, such as German videoartist and dramatist Nicola Unger and American performer Tony Orrico. While the organizers have a keen interest in trends spreading through Europe and beyond, LP’11 is also a firm supporter of local artists, nurturing their talents and closely following their professional development before and after the festival. This third edition features performances from various Barcelona-based artists, including ballerina, choreographer and co-founder of contemporary dance group Las Santas Bea Fernández, and el conde de torrefiel, an eclectic theater collective who aim to transcend the boundaries of verbal language, creating scenic poetry that confronts our daily realities.

Favoring “intersection” over “exhibition,” the festival aims to establish dialogue among both artists and audiences. The Extras LP’11 section of the program invites spectators to become part of the festival through interactive events: a reading group invites the discussion of various texts relating to the festival’s main themes, while Polish artist Antoni Karwowski will lead “Genotype / Source / Genotype” – a free performance workshop for people interested in developing creative works related to the body. Blending tradition with trend through a variety of different media, this innovative festival offers a truly exciting array of events that will interest both dance debutants, professionals and everyone in-between.
