If first impressions are that a wine and cava-themed film festival may not have the widest of appeals, then Most Festival is not as niche as it sounds. Fired up by generous local backing, the debut edition is doing its damnedest to modernize prestigious wine-making region Penedès’ image and debunk any of those age-old “wine-buff” clichés and preconceptions.

With 24 films confirmed, the Collita 2011 section compiles European produced audiovisuals weighing in on wine and cava today, including climate-change documentary Global Warming and Wine, Cava a Tailàndia about Bangkok’s swinging cava scene and Sarau!, a “video-dance” piece on wine. Second section Gran Reserva serves up, along with a crate or two as well as a cameo from Spanish actress Mercedes Sampietro, a selection of unreleased movies currently on the film festival circuit, such as Seth Rogen and Michelle Williams’ fronted Take This Waltz, lending Most a distinctly high note of cinema.
