Opening on June 18th, the cultural program begins with a poetry-music recital featuring writer Isabel Franc at Fundació Enllaç and includes photographic exhibitions, theater, conferences and more. New for 2011 is Mira'm (Look at me), an open short film competition giving aspiring directors the chance to capture their own view of Pride; all entries will be uploaded to site's YouTube page, with a screening of the shortlisted titles at Cinemes Méliès at 6pm on June 21st. Artists from Tel Aviv, this year's guest of honor, will also feature in the program, contributing expositions, discussions and reflection on LGBT living in a very different part of the world. Though a multinational festival, Barcelona Pride remains proud of its roots and will incorporate elements of traditional Catalan culture in its celebrations, such as the enormous human towers known as castells.
As always, Pride is open to everyone, regardless of age, sexual orientation or... species. Pridegoers can now celebrate with their pets at Cats & Dogs Pride, with training classes and agility practice on offer at The Village on Avinguda Maria Cristina on the morning of Saturday 25th. Factor in Kids Pride, the designated children's zone of The Village, and it's clear this really can be an event for all the family.
