Having firmly established itself as one of Europe's biggest and brightest LGBT festivals, Pride Barcelona returns in June and is expected to unite over 100,000 supporters. While the colorful march from Plaça Universitat to the official fiesta at Montjuïc will of course remain at the heart of the festival, the organizers are keen to break away from the stereotypical images that usually accompany Pride celebrations. This year's eleven-day line-up supplements the parties and parades with arts, sports, discussions and much more, a fittingly varied program for what is ultimately a celebration of diversity.

Opening on June 18th, the cultural program begins with a poetry-music recital featuring writer Isabel Franc at Fundació Enllaç and includes photographic exhibitions, theater, conferences and more. New for 2011 is Mira'm (Look at me), an open short film competition giving aspiring directors the chance to capture their own view of Pride; all entries will be uploaded to site's YouTube page, with a screening of the shortlisted titles at Cinemes Méliès at 6pm on June 21st. Artists from Tel Aviv, this year's guest of honor, will also feature in the program, contributing expositions, discussions and reflection on LGBT living in a very different part of the world. Though a multinational festival, Barcelona Pride remains proud of its roots and will incorporate elements of traditional Catalan culture in its celebrations, such as the enormous human towers known as castells.

As always, Pride is open to everyone, regardless of age, sexual orientation or... species. Pridegoers can now celebrate with their pets at Cats & Dogs Pride, with training classes and agility practice on offer at The Village on Avinguda Maria Cristina on the morning of Saturday 25th. Factor in Kids Pride, the designated children's zone of The Village, and it's clear this really can be an event for all the family.

this is for sure one of the most original and interesting prides I've ever been to, a place for everyone for sure! I'm not such a party goer, so this one has a place on my heart!
