How did you get into music?
I have been playing vinyl records since 1997. I played here and there in Sheffield, but my first serious residency was when I got drafted by Plat Du Jour in Barcelona. I've done a whole mess of mixtapes; the one that got the most rotation was a compilation of music from Sheffield called South Yorks which I executed with Kid Acne. Volume two will be all up in your eargoggles this summer.
Who are your main influences?
Number one would be John Peel, an ego-free promoter of heartfelt music, an open man and a true red (Liverpool FC fan) as long as he lived. Secondly, George Orwell, a great writer, socialist, and honorary Catalan [citizen]. And finally, of course, my mum, a sociable and fun-loving lady with a passion for second-hand digging.
What records are currently spending time in your record bag?
The most versatile pieces in the flight case are Talking Heads’ Remain In Light LP, Pional’s A Moot Point EP and Mount Kimbie's Late Night Errand 12".
Can you tell us a bit about your Zodiac parties?
Every month, we pay tribute to star-sign souls by getting as high up a hill as possible and party till the early morn. Our music policy is strictly guided by cosmic forces beyond our understanding and control.
Can you tell us about your new radio show?
Myself and T-Wing from A Viva Veu have a monthly “edutainment” hour that we podcast called Radio Fauna. We give shine to new and interesting music, or music connected to BCN by tours or festivals.
What are your top tips and suggestions for Sónar / off-Sónar?
I'll be seeking out Egyptrixx, Four Tet, oOoOO, Niño, Toddla T and Toro Y Moi. Off-Sónar, we at Zodiac have a big line-up with Berlin-based house agency Jackmode on June 16 to garnish our pool party, so keep your Thursday night free.
