In a city where the choice of one language over another is occasionally the cause of friction between citizens, literary event Tri Lengua aims to encourage creativity, communication and collaboration between the different tongues used in and around Barcelona. Presenting pieces of contemporary writing stemming from regional, national and international cultures and backgrounds, this monthly event invites writers of prose and poetry in Catalan, Castilian, English and occasionally other languages to read their work to an open-minded and open-eared audience.

Renowned as a European center of culture and with a huge international community, Barcelona is both home and inspiration to a growing base of English-language writers eager to share their words with both fellow ex-pats and multilingual locals. The event also serves to generate an interest in contemporary Catalan and Spanish writing among those who might have had little contact with Catalunya's literatures. Whether you're a monoglot or a master of all three tongues, the organizers aim to ensure variety within pieces read at the events, meaning you're almost certain to hear something that interests you.

Hosted at the Gracia Arts Project gallery, Tri Lengua provides an intimate and friendly atmosphere in which anyone interested can share their stories, enjoy some new writing, and meet new people with similiar interests. All are welcome to step up and share their writing, from those who haven't read out a story since their school days, to established and experienced authors and poets. The next Tri Lengua event will take place in March, with free entry and refreshments available – if you think you're brave enough to take to the stage, email a sample of your writing to tri.lengua@gmail.com.
