The Portland-based duo is on tour to promote a new album, Volume Two. After performing at US festivals like SXSW and Coachella, they’ll hit Spanish shores, bringing what they call “music for an eternal springtime, when the temperature is warm enough to go riding with the top (or at least the windows) rolled down and the radio turned up.” The bittersweet and dreamy folk-pop accompanied by Deschanel’s dulcet tones turns sad lyrics into jolly sweet numbers. The pair teamed up in 2008, when they sang a duet on the film The Go-Getter. They discovered a mutual love for old time greats like Cole Porter, Carole King and Gershwin. ‘Him’ was first captivated by ‘She’ after hearing her sing in the film Elf. ‘She’ had a heap of demos kept shyly hidden away, and one day, ‘She’ sent them to ‘Him’. Ever since, it’s been a perfect fusion of not too dark, not too light sounds, and a collaboration-turned-friendship.
