Top CD releases for December 2008 and January 2009, including new sounds from Fire on Fire and Scott Weiland. Marcos Papamichael

ANIMAL COLLECTIVEMerriweather Post Pavilion
Forward-thinking neo-hippie folk outfit Animal Collective are back in January with their ninth studio album. Despite a shifting mood throughout the 11-track album, a blend of trippy beats and plaintive vocal melodies makes it the perfect soundtrack for a low-key yet psychedelic dance party.

LISA 'LEFT EYE' LOPES – Eye-Legacy
The second solo album from the former TLC member will finally be released in late December. Including collaborations with Missy Elliot, Bobby Valentino, Chamillionaire and Lil Mama this album comes six years after the singer’s death and promises to add to the legacy left behind by the colourful rapper.

FIRE ON FIREThe Orchard
The members of former folk collective Cerberus Shoal have ditched the electric instruments and return to the scene with an all-acoustic five-piece band. With a banjo, mandolin, and accordion, among other instruments, the five flatmates from Maine have added an eccentric gospel sound to their music and are back in December with a fresh full-length album.

SCOTT WEILANDHappy in Galoshes
Over 20 years after bursting onto the scene with American grunge giants Stone Temple Pilots, Scott Weiland returns with his second solo effort. Including guest appearances by several No Doubt members as well as acclaimed DJ Paul Oakenfold, the album goes a long way to prove that Weiland’s song-writing and musical genius is still going strong.
