Australian photographer known for her striking imagery and creative subjects displays a range of works in BCN. Nikky Okoro

Known for her striking imagery and creative subjects, Australian photographer Belinda Mason has built up a diverse portfolio. She’s worked with Chanel and even covered crocodile hunts in the Northern Territory, since beginning as a photographer in advertising in the 1980s. In 1998, her work shifted towards capturing images on social issues like grief, body image and the family. In her upcoming exhibition at GaleríaZero, three series on the life of Australia’s Aborigines will be displayed: Maningrida, I Am, Identity and Yolgnu on Balanda.

The exhibition brings together images of native tribes in the most remote areas of the country, as well as in urban settings. For Yolngu on Balanda, Mason shows how the indigenous people view the country’s Caucasian population. Her goal was to provide a cultural interchange across the population’s barriers, as well as a deeper, visual look into the tribes' opinions about Balanda (non-indigenous) people. Complementing these works, photos by Aborigine and photographer, Dajjammar Djorilda, in the series My Story, will be shown.
